Here’s a gift idea all about helping friends get through the wrapping season! This weekend I had to attend two Christmas gift-exchange parties. I had to think of an idea that cost about $5-10 and I had to give 10 of them. In the past, I’ve done Christmas Stovetop Potpourri, coffee mugs, paperwhite bulb kits, Christmas cookies and even special marshmallows. This year, I decided to give everyone a Christmas Gift Wrapping Kit in hopes they all “have a holly, jolly time wrapping!”
The kit included wrapping essentials we tend to misplace or simply run out of while wrapping. I not only designed a gift tag to attach to the kit, but I designed gift tags to include in the kit as well (free downloads are provided at the end of this post). It turned out super cute and everyone loved it. It would make a perfect gift for teachers (what my sister is doing this year), neighbors, book clubs, hostesses, friends and family.
Things to Include In Your Gift Wrapping Kit
- Scissors
- Tape
- Sharpie marker
- Tissue paper
- Small gift bags
- Ribbon
- Bows
- Gift tags – buy or print your own (see below for more details)
- Other gift embellishments
- And don’t forget wine (it comes in a can now) or hot cocoa for non-drinkers—to help get them through the late-night wrapping!
Tip: Stick to buying things in the same color scheme. I kept it simple with classic red, white and green with a touch of blue. I found a lot at Target and Michael’s. Michael’s also had a lot of the gift wrap half off so I highly recommend starting there.
How to Package Your Gift Wrapping Kit
I put everything in a treat box I found at Target. Unfortunately, I don’t see them online, but you find them in the party supply section at Target with their Spritz brand party supplies. Meant to hold cupcakes, the boxes worked perfectly for this gift too and I liked the seethrough window. Keep in mind, they were also affordable, coming in sets of three for only $4.50. You could use any box (like a photo box) or bag that fit your items.
I tied the boxes shut using baking twine and attached a snowflake ornament as well as a custom gift tag. I designed the custom gift tags to say, “Have a holly, jolly time wrapping.” Be sure to download the free Christmas Gift Wrap Kit Tags printable. The PDF is set up as an 8.5″ x 11″ page and prints six tags per page.
In addition, I created matching gift tags to include within the Gift Wrap Kit. Be sure to download the To and From Holly Gift Tags as well as the Oh Holy Night Gift Tags. I placed the tags in a small plastic bag and taped it shut using washi tape.
I always like to include something unexpected and the wine definitely fit that bill. It’s something fun to help everyone get through the late-night wrapping that’s bound to happen. You can find the cans at Trader Joe’s and other brands are sold at Total Wine. For the non-drinkers (which I had a couple), I provided Hot Cocoa Spoons I found at Target. You could also include a festive treat like chocolate or Christmas cookies. Have fun with it.
So how easy and thoughtful is that? Who do you think could use a Christmas Gift Wrap Kit and what items will you include? I’d love to hear your ideas in the comments. You could always attach the Gift Wrap Tag to a roll of wrapping paper or even just a bag of the custom gift tags. It’s the thought that counts. Enjoy!

I did this last year and delivered to my friend’s homes after Thanksgiving! It was a total hit and so nice to spend a little time thinking about each friend! I am gathering my materials to do it again this year! Target has the $1 small wrapping paper rolls that fit great in a tall, narrow gift bag (last year they also had matching or coordinating tall, narrow gift bags for $1). Added other items including tissue paper, ribbon, tags, embellishments, and tape. I used your happy wrapping tags! This year I will include a can of wine! They will love it!
