I bring to you DIY Floral Pumpkin Toppers because I found Baby Boo Pumpkins this weekend at the market, so it’s officially fall. Okay, it’s not official until next week, but lets at least say Pumpkin Season is officially on! I know a lot of people have had their faux pumpkins out since the end of August, but, please don’t hate me, I’m just not a fan of faux pumpkins. Don’t get me wrong, I love me a pumpkin figurine, so I have glass pumpkins and wooden pumpkins. However, faux pumpkins that are trying to look real never work for me. They simply don’t look real. So I patiently wait for real pumpkins to make their way to my grocery store.
I especially love Baby Boos. Baby Boo Pumpkins look perfectly cute on their own, but they are fun to craft with as well. I’ve done succulent pumpkins in the past and loved that look, but this year I’m all about using pine cones, acorns, and mums in my decor. And from there I created this simple DIY Floral Pumpkin Topper. It took me under 10 minutes so it really is a simple and easy way to dress up your fall pumpkins.
Materials
- Baby Boo Pumpkin (or small faux pumpkin)
- Faux Flowers: Here are the links to the exact ones I found at Michael’s (I am not an affiliate):
- Faux Greenery (I don’t see the one I used on the website, but this Faux Boxwood is close.)
- Pine cones
- Acorns (I found mine at Crate & Barrel)
- 1/2″ Glue Dots (or glue gun if using a faux pumpkin)
Note: permanent or temporary glue dots will work fine. I’ve found that both options (even the permanent) allow you to remove items from your pumpkin.
Instructions
The trick for doing this on a real pumpkin—use Glue Dots. Since I’ll throw away the pumpkin at the end of the season, instead of using hot glue to hold everything in place, Glue Dots will allow me to take everything off before I throw the pumpkin away. I can then save the flowers, pine cones and acorns for next year. Of course, you could use this same technique on a faux pumpkin. If using a faux pumpkin, I would probably use hot glue instead of the glue dots, making it more permanent. Although glue dots should still work because they are supposed to be permanent as well. Below are the simple how-to instructions.
Using your glue dots, start by attaching a few sprigs of greenery around the pumpkin stem. Then add a large pine cone close to the base of the stem (use a few glue dots). From there put in your flowers and acorns making sure you completely surround the pumpkin stem. You really can’t go wrong.
I have more crafts planned for my pine cones, acorns and mums so stay tuned. In the meantime, you can check out how I added pine cones to my floral arrangements on my post: Creating the Same Look Using Fresh and Faux Flowers. Happy crafting!
