Easter is this weekend and I don’t know about you, but I often celebrate it at someone else’s home. I actually usually celebrate it twice, once at my aunt and uncle’s home and once with family friends. So that got me to thinking, it would be nice to have a couple of hostess gifts for this weekend. For hostess gifts, I like to keep it simple by dressing up a bottle of wine or flowers with a custom gift tag. Yet, I didn’t want the gift tag to only work for Easter; hence, my Hostess with the Mostest Gift Tag. A gift tag that will be perfect to have on hand for any party or gathering I may be attending.
I suggest creating a few tags to have on hand for when you are attending any gathering. Tie the gift tag to a wine bottle, house plant, flower bouquet, tea towel or even a box of bakery goods. It will make even last-minute gifts you pick up from the grocery store feel extra special. And let’s face it, hostess gifts usually are last-minute purchases. So perhaps even keep a couple of tags with ribbon in your car’s glove box for this exact last-minute need!
My Cricut (a cutting machine) made this tag extra special. The tag is actually two pieces with the top piece cut out by a Cricut (or another cutting machine) and the bottom piece being printed on a desktop printer (or at a printer like FedEx Office). I really love the overlay effect and think this is the start of many more to come in this same style.
For those who don’t have a Cricut, I have a print version for the top card too. So do not fret. I think the colors are just as fun and allows for the top card to be used alone or paired with the floral background card.
Materials
- Cricut Hostess with the Mostest Gift Tag (For Cutting Top Card)
- Printable Hostess with the Mostest Gift Tag (For Printed Top Card)
- Floral Background Card PDF (For Printed Background Card)
- White Card Stock
- Ribbon
Instructions
For Cutout Top Card: Download the Cricut Hostess with the Mostest Gift Tag. Upload to Cricut Design Space or another cutting machine program. Follow the instructions of your cutting machine’s software. Make sure to size your art to 2.5″ x 4.25″. Cut out from white cardstock.
For Printed Top Card: Download the Printable Hostess with the Mostest Gift Tag. Print on a desktop printer or at a place like FedEx Office or Staples. Print on white card stock. Cut out each card.
For Printed Background Card: Download the Floral Background Card. Print on a desktop printer or at a place like FedEx Office or Staples. Print on white card stock. Cut out each card.
Assembling the final card: Center your top card onto the background card and punch a hole at the top. Using your ribbon, tie onto your gift.
Tip for tying your bow: Wrap your ribbon around your gift and tie in place (this creates the loose “knot” you get with step one of tying a regular bow). Instead of just slipping your gift tags onto one strand of the ribbon, insert both ends of your ribbon into the holes of your stacked gift tags starting from the back of the background card. You’ll end up with two strands of ribbon coming out of the hole of your top card (like the photo above). From there, tie your bow starting with just the “bunny ears” step, do not redo the “knot” step. I hope this makes sense, but trust me, it’s how you get a perfect bow in the center of your card.
Wrapping a Wine Bottle Using a Tea Towel
Using the tea towel to wrap a wine bottle is very easy. You can get the instructions on my post: 2-in-1 Hostess Gift Using a Tea Towel for Wrapping.
I got the set of two yellow plaid dish towels used in this post at Ikea for $3. They are NEW so you should be able to get them too. Such a great deal and the perfect weight for wrapping a bottle. Plus the yellow is spot on with the yellow in my design.
