Faux Fall Flower Arrangement Tutorial

This Faux Fall Flower Arrangement Tutorial will give you flower-by-flower instructions so you can confidently make your own floral centerpiece.

The featured flowers in this arrangement are the dahlias—a perfect fall flower. I bought them a few years ago from Pottery Barn; however, faux dahlias are readily available at craft stores this time of year. All the other faux stems were from Target’s fall flower collection. I’ve provided the links, but you can also find similar items at your craft store.

Materials

• 4 dahlias or another large bloom flower
• 4 hops stems (I used one 28″ Artificial Hops Stem – Threshold from Target cut into 4 pieces.)
• 3 or 4 sedum stems or other seeded stems ( I used one 25″ Faux Golden Sedum Stem – Hearth & Hand with Magnolia from Target cut into 3 or 4 pieces.)
• 2 allium stems (I used one 24″ Artificial Allium Stem Purple – Threshold from Target cut into two pieces.)
• Floral wire
• Floral tape (optional)
• Small teardrop vase (For the teal vase, see my tutorial for the DIY Faux Marble Vase)

Instructions

1: Start with your 4 dahlias or large blooms. Remove any leaves (but keep for use later) and then place stems into your vase. Make sure each large bloom is just resting on the lip of the vase.

2: Next, add your 4 hops stems. Place one between each large dahlia. Note: If using a large stem with multiple branches, just cut into smaller pieces.

3: Now add your sedum stems. You’ll add them toward the center of your arrangement and between a couple of the large flowers. Note: If using a large stem with multiple branches, just cut into smaller pieces. If the pieces stems are too short, attach each stem to floral wire cut to the correct height using floral tape.

4: As you add your sedum you can also add your two allium stems. Make sure they are on opposite sides of your vase. Note: If using a larger stem with multiple branches, just cut into smaller pieces.

5: Lastly, add your leaves. I used the leaves from my dahlias and used about five leaves. I took them off the dahlia stems and then using floral tape I attached each leaf to floral wire. This then allowed me to place the leaves where I wanted them separate from the dahlias. If your dahlias and/or large blooms didn’t come with usable leaves, simply buy some faux leaves at Michaels or another craft store. Another alternative is to use real leaves cut from your yard. Using real greenery will help make your arrangement look real even though all the flowers are faux.
