Wild for Pencils Printable Valentines

You guys requested more non-candy classroom Valentine ideas so this year I went with pencils. There are tons of pencil valentine options on Pinterest but they all seem to focus on the pencil with sayings like “You’re sharp,” “You’re all write,” or “You’ve got the write stuff”. All cute, but I wanted to do something different. Knowing my niece loves flamingos, I decided to design a flamingo valentine and use the pencil as the leg. So I designed the flamingo and thought the design was so cute. In fact, it got me thinking I could do other animals. A sloth could hang from the pencil, a koala could climb the pencil and a panda could eat it like bamboo. And that’s how the Wild for Pencils Printable Valentines Collection was born.

Materials

• Wild for Pencils Valentines Printable PDF
• White Cardstock or high-quality printer paper
• Pencils
• Tape (for the flamingo valentine)
• Scissors
• Xacto knife

Instructions

1. Download the Wild for Pencils Valentines Printable PDF. Print file at home or at a local printer like FedEx Office or Staples. I recommend printing on white cardstock to make your valentine more sturdy, but a high-quality printer paper would also work.
2. Cut out each valentine.

Follow the below steps for each valentine

For the sloth valentine: using your Xacto knife, you’re going to cut four slits. The slits go along the sides of two of the sloth’s legs/arms. Alternate which legs you choose so that it looks like two legs are in front and two legs are in back. Make the slits wide enough so you can slip the pencil into the slits (almost as long as the legs/arms). Insert the pencil into each slit.

For the koala valentine: using your Xacto knife, you’re going to make two (or three) slits. Two slits go along the sides of the arm, make as long as the arm. The optional third slit can be along the leg. Insert the pencil into each slit.

For the flamingo valentine: using your Xacto knife, cut one slit along the bottom of the flamingo. Make wide enough so you can slip the pencil into the slit. Insert the pencil and tape the pencil to the back of the card so it stays in place.

For the panda valentine: using your Xacto knife you’re going to cut two slits. Slits go along the opposite sides of the panda’s arm. Make as long as the arm. Insert your pencil into the slits.
