The title says it all. BLT Bites were inspired by the classic BLT sandwich, but I made them bite sized and open faced. With football season starting, I wanted something that would not only be easy to make on game day, but also a crowd pleaser. Bacon is usually always a crowd pleaser. Yet, bacon can also be a pain to make—but not if you bake it!
Have you baked bacon before? It takes just 15 minutes in the oven and you eliminate not only having to stand at the stove, but you also don’t have to avoid oil splatter. The splatter-free oven technique is a game changer. This is especially true for entertaining because you can cook large batches in shorter time.
BLT Bites Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 package bacon
- 1 French baguette
- 1 head of lettuce
- 8-12 roma tomatoes
- Mayonnaise
- Olive Oil
- Toothpicks
Instructions
- For bacon: Preheat oven to 400°. Use a rimmed baking sheet. Line the rimmed baking sheet with foil or parchment paper. Layer your bacon strips on the baking sheet. One baking sheet will probably be 1/2 a package of bacon. Bake for 15-20 minutes. Drain bacon on paper towels.
- For crostini: Cut your baguette into slices. Brush each slice with olive oil on both sides and place on a cookie sheet. Bake in your oven for 8-10 minutes, flipping your bread slices after only 4-5 minutes.
- Slice your tomatoes and cut your lettuce into small pieces that match the size of your baguette slices.
- Once your bacon and bread are done, assemble your BLT Bites. Start with a thin layer of mayonnaise and then layer on top with a piece of lettuce, a piece of bacon and a tomato slice. Hold your sandwich bites together with a toothpick.
I will be enjoying these during football season this year. I graduated from Ohio State, so college football is big in my house. I actually had no choice because my parents also graduated from Ohio State, so I’ve been cheering for them since I was in the womb.
