An easy and fun way to update your Easter eggs is by painting them new colors and using a little glitter. Honestly, there couldn’t be an easier yet more rewarding craft than DIY Glitter Easter Eggs. You’ll simply need some craftable Easter eggs, paint, Mod Podge and glitter.
This year I’m trying to spend little to no money on my Easter decor, but I still wanted my Easter decorations to feel fresh and new. Last year, I made this DIY Easter Basket Centerpiece that I figured I could update this year by simply changing the Easter eggs.
In order to accomplish a new look, I first decided to change up my color scheme. I’m currently obsessed with a royal blue, lime green and white floral print fabric I used for my DIY Upcycled Coffee Can Vase. So using the fabric as my inspiration, I painted the eggs royal blue, light blue, lime green, coral and white. I know coral is not a color in the fabric, but it coordinates nicely and I also have a lot of terra cotta in my current decor scheme.
Once I painted all the eggs, I wanted to add a little sparkle. So using some glitter and Mod Podge, I glittered half the eggs. The combination of painted eggs and glitter eggs creates interesting texture differences. And by simply using previously owned craft supplies, I created a bold new look for Easter.
Materials
- Craft Easter Eggs (paper mache, wood or other craftable egg)
- Acrylic Craft Paint
- Mod Podge
- Crystal Clear Glitter (Note: you only need clear glitter, you do not need a different color for each colored egg)
- Foam Brush
- Paper Plate
- Clear Glossy Spray Paint (optional, helps set the glitter so it doesn’t come off your eggs)
Instructions
Paint your eggs. Use whatever colors match your color scheme. Your eggs may need two to three coats of paint depending on if they’ve been painted before.
Add glitter to your eggs. Put a thin layer of Mod Podge over the entire egg. Over a paper plate, sprinkle your egg with glitter. Let dry. Return any glitter on the paper plate to your glitter jar. Repeat for each egg.
Optional, but highly recommended: Once dry, spray your glittered eggs with a coat of clear glossy spray paint. This will help set the glitter so it doesn’t come off.
