I’m following up on my DIY Face Mask Tutorial with a cute way you can give a face mask as a gift. This DIY “You Are Loved” Drawstring Gift Bag makes for a cute DIY Face Mask Gift Set that can include a DIY Face Mask and coffee filters for extra filter protection. And of course you can use the “You Are Loved” gift bag for other gifts as well.
Materials
- 2 pieces of fabric cut 6.5″ x 9 1/4″
- Thread
- 2 pieces of ribbon, twine or rope cute about 18″ long
- Safety pin
- Sewing machine
- FREE “You Are Loved” SVG File (optional, for saying)
- Iron-on Vinyl (optional, for saying)
- Cricut or another vinyl cutting machine (optional, for saying)
Instructions
Place fabric right sides together. Measure two inches from the top and put on a pin on both sides. Starting from the pin on one side sew down the side, bottom, and up the next side stopping at the other pin. Use a 1/4″ seam allowance. Cut the corners of the bag. Make sure to not cut through the stitching.
At top of bag, fold in the 1/4″ unsewn seam on the two 2″ sides and press down. Then from the top, fold in fabric 1/4″ and press. Then fold down again until you hit the 2″ mark (about 3/4″ fold) and press. Sew hem shut by sewing as close to the fold as possible. Repeat on the other side.
Turn your bag right sides out and press. Attach a safety pin to one piece of ribbon. Thread your ribbon through your drawstring opening starting on the right side of your bag and ending up on the right side of your bag. Repeat with your second piece of ribbon but start on the opposite side. On each side, tie the ends of your ribbon together.
Now add the Iron-on Vinyl saying. Cut out using a Cricut Maker (or another vinyl cutting machine) and then follow the instructions on your Iron-on Vinyl to iron the saying to your bag.
You can make the bags in a variety of fabrics, shapes and sizes. Have fun with it.
I originally created the drawstring bag to use for a Face Mask Gift Set. I coordinated my fabrics to go with the mask I had made and filled each bag with a DIY Face Mask and 10 coffee filters. It’s perfect for our current stay-at-home needs. So perhaps give to a friend who could use something practical as well as a little extra love today.
