Halloween Cheer Gift Tags

October 20, 2020

Y2K has nothing on 2020! Therefore, please enjoy my FREE Halloween Cheer printable gift tags to help combat this batty year. The punny Halloween gift tags are perfect for attaching to a bottle of wine for adults or favor bags for kids. Plus, since Halloween will for sure look different this year, perhaps drop the gifts off with your friends and family on Halloween. It could be a fun and safe social-distancing Halloween activity.

Halloween Cheer Gift Tag Free Printable: Enjoy Some Halloween Cheer to Help Combat this Batty Year

Materials

  • Free Halloween Cheer Gift Tags PDF file
  • Free Halloween Cheer Bats Cricut Design Space Project or Free Bat Templates PDF
  • 9” piece of black paper rope (twine)
  • 7” piece of black 22 gauge wire
  • Mod Podge or white glue
  • Tape
  • Spray adhesive
  • 8.5” x 11” white card stock and printer
  • Black glitter paper (or black card stock you glitter yourself)

Instructions

For the Tag…

Download the FREE Halloween Cheer Gift Tags printable. Print at home or take the PDF file to a place like FedEx Office or Staples. Print the file on white card stock. The printable will print 2 finished tags per 8.5” x 11” paper. Once printed, cut tags.

For the Bats…

You’ll need four 3″ paper bats per tag. Cricut users can cut bats using my Free Halloween Bats Cricut Design Space Project. Everyone else can use the Free PDF template (use the 3″ bat). Cut bats out of black glitter card stock.

Note: I didn’t have glitter paper so I first cut the bats from black card stock and glittered the bats using spray adhesive and black glitter. I then “set” the glitter by spraying the bats with a clear coat of glossy paint. This helps the glitter from coming off.

Wine Tag Assembly

Layer a small tag on top of a large tag and punch a hole at the top. Insert your piece of wire into the hole, fold the wire in half, and twist in place. Make sure to separate the wire ends before the next step. It will now look like you have two wires.

Halloween Gift Tag: Creating Cow Hitch Knot

Next, using the paper rope/twine you’ll create a “Cow Hitch Knot.” To tie the knot, fold your twine in half and insert the loop from the front to the back of your tag so the loose ends hang from the front. Then insert the loose ends into the loop and gently pull tight. The wires will stick out of either side of the finished knot.

Halloween Cheer Gift Tag: Creating Wine Bottle Loop

Now create the wine bottle loop that goes around the neck of the wine bottle. Use a wine bottle to help create the right size loop. Tie a knot. Cut the tails of your knot a little over 1/2” long. Remove from the bottle. To hide the tails of your knot, put Mod Podge/glue on the tails and twist each tail around the loop you created. When done it should look like a solid loop. Let dry.

Halloween Cheer Gift Tag - Adding Bats

Once dry, it’s ready for the bats. Place the tag back on the wine bottle to help determine the placement of your bats on the wire. Cut wires to the appropriate height and tape a bat to each wire. Remove tag from the bottle and lay face down on the table. Using spray adhesive, make the bats “double-sided” by attaching a second bat to each bat, making sure to “sandwich” the wire between the two bats.

Halloween Cheer Gift Tag On Wine Bottle

You’re done! Attach your finished gift tag to your favorite bottle of wine or favorite bottle of spirits and give it to a friend in need of some Halloween cheer—which is everyone!

For Use On Other Gifts

Follow the instructions above but skip making the loop that goes on a wine bottle. Instead, use a ribbon and tie a bow to your gift.

Happy Friday! I thought I’d welcome August with some new flowers.

This time of year, I love the look of sunflowers mixed with pink and purple dahlias, so I set out to recreate that same feeling using faux and dried flowers. The key wasn’t finding the exact blooms, but rather choosing realistic stems in similar colors that captured the same vibe.

I’m loving how it turned out. And as a bonus, these flowers show no signs of wilting in this summer heat. 😉

I never set out to build a collection, but somehow I always fall for what I call the Vintage Domino Effect. 😉 Roseville is just one of the vintage USA pottery makers I collect, and I love finding pieces that work together without being a matching set. In this collection, the different floral patterns and forms come together through a shared color palette, giving it a curated feel.

This collection features four classic Roseville florals:

Water Lily (1943) — I found it at the Hull Pottery Association National Show

Iris (1939) — found at the Urbana Antique Show & Flea Market

White Rose (1940) — found while antiquing in the Zanesville, Ohio area

Clematis (1944) — found on a road trip through North Carolina

Which pattern is your favorite? And tell me I’m not the only one who’s fallen for the Vintage Domino Effect.

Are you into the Dirty Soda craze? They were a hit at Mackie’s grad party. It’s pretty easy to set up a “help yourself” bar. Just have a variety of sodas and syrups, some cherries and limes, and don’t forget the cream. We also provided some example recipes inspired by our graduate. Both kids and adults had fun making their drinks. I highly recommend and would do this again. #dirtysoda #gradparty
